As first-year students embark on their college experience, they will all take part in Loyola's living learning program, Messina. The common text for Messina is Just Mercy, by Bryan Stevenson. The book, a compelling first-hand account of a lawyer who defends the poor and wrongly condemned, speaks to the inequality in the justice system.

Nine awards were given for service and 165 students were recognized for achieving GPAs of 3.5 or higher at the fifth annual ceremony.
Thirty Ohio Wesleyan University student-scientists shared the results of their 10-week summer science research projects recently at the university's 24th annual Patricia Belt Conrades Summer Science Research Symposium. The students presented information and answered questions about their research findings, which were documented in posters outlining each project.
A number of Eastern students commit to student internships as an on-site practical work experience with a company or organization that can provide them with firsthand knowledge of a career field. The internship is usually related to the student's major or is directly related to the student's career interest. They often complement the student's coursework, can incorporate skills and classroom experience into the workplace and assist the student in developing new abilities and skills.
Several students had their creative work published in RiverCraft, an on-campus literary magazine at Susquehanna University. RiverCraft includes fiction, poetry and photography, and is printed annually in the spring.
The Psychology Department and Psychology Club at Eastern Connecticut State University co-sponsored the first ever Psychological Science Night on Dec. 10 in the Student Center. Through poster and oral presentations, the event showcased the undergraduate research of 60 students in Eastern's psychology program.
